Lyle Dickerson Model 8014 Bamboo Rod 8' 2/2 #6

VFT2914

For sale here is a Lyle Dickerson Model 8014 bamboo rod. The rod was originally ordered by Dickerson's friend, George Griffiths (founding member of Trout Unlimited in Grayling, Michaigan) for a Mr. Philip N. Wright of Aspen, Colorado in 1969. Eight feet in length for a six weight line. Built in 1969, late in Dickerson's career. The rod was featured in Jeff Hatton's book, Rod Crafting on pages 294 and 295. The rod is in excellent+ original condition. All sections are full-length and straight. Blonde cane with Dickerson's classic 3 X 3 node pattern. The rod was special ordered and features rich honey colored silks as opposed to the earlier standard brown tipped black. There are four intermediates placed between the stripping guide and the grip. Chrome plated snake guides. Bronzed, loop-style hook-keeper. The writing on the rod is quite bold and obviously written by Dickerson himself. Reversed half wells grip is only lightly soiled and very smooth. Bright aluminum down-locking reel seat with varnished wood spacer. Seat and spacer are both in wonderful condition. Blued ferrules size 14/64 with an excellent fit. The rod weighs 4.30 oz. Medium-fast action. There is a small open seam between the splines on one of the tips (shown on pg. 295 of Jeff's book). Comes with original bag and tube with the black plastic cap, a hallmark of later Dickerson rods. The threads on the cap remain sharp and the cap still screws tight to the tube collar.

Also included with the rod is a letter of provenance, written in Lyle's hand on Dickerson stationery and dated September 22, 1969.
