For sale here is a second-model Edward Vom Hofe Model 423 salmon fly reel in excellent overall condition. This reel was made before it was officially coined the "Restigouche" model in approximately 1911. When this reel was made, the model was referred to as the "Celebrated Salmon and Grilse Click Reel".Size 6/0 - 4 1/4" diameter. This reel carries the Sep 2, 1879 patent on the drag adjustment disc under the handle, as well as the Jan 23, 1883 patent mark for the sliding click drag. German silver safety bands and pair of roller bars. The reel has a strong adjustable drag and click. The seven detent arrowhead pointer drag feature with red dot indicators originated circa 1907.The reel foot is full length and not filed. Includes a 6/0 marking on it but no serial number. Serial numbers were applied to the feet starting in 1908. No cracks in the hard rubber. All screws in fine condition. Very strong drag when adjusted hinting at the fact that the leather pads are in superb condition. Overall a very nice example of a second-model 423 Vom Hofe!

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt.
