For sale here is a Paul H. Young 8' Special bamboo fly rod. Two sections with two tips for a 5 weight line. This is the "Medium" model of the Special grade, made wholly by Paul Young himself, not from blanks from Heddon, Edwards or anyone else. The rod is in excellent original condition. All sections are full length and straight with the exception of a fishing set in one of the tips. Beautifully flamed cane, characteristic of PHY rods. Chestnut brown silks with spiral winding at the edges as tipping. The same spiral wraps at the winding check and signature wrap with Special stamped in between. Half-wells grip in excellent shape with the exception of some chipping at the nose from being used as a hook keeper. Nickel silver sliding band reel seat over cork. The ferrules have a lovely brassy color resulting from the aged varnish over them. The ferrule size is 13/64 and the fit is excellent. Medium fast dry fly action. The rod weighs 3.95 oz. Original bag, replacement Champion-style tube.
This is a superb all original example of a late 40's PHY Special rod and in a weight and length that make it just about perfect for all trout situations. Don't regret not picking up this fine rod from one of the greatest makers of all time!

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
