Edward Vom Hofe Model 355 Peerless Fly Reel - early Size 1

VFT5860

For sale here is a scarce early Edward Vom Hofe Model 355 Fly Reel - Size 1. Late 19th century reel owing to the lack of model number on the reel foot (instituted at the turn of the century), or serial number (instituted in 1908). This model was later dubbed the "Peerless" in 1911. German silver / hard rubber construction. The hard rubber side plates are in excellent condition with no cracks. Mechanically the reel remains in excellent condition. The oil cap has the 1883 patent stamp. This is an early reel before serial numbers were instituted and when EVH made the reels with offset reel feet. I've included a photo of two other reels with similar offset reel feet from a similar era. This reel also has a large arbor that may have been a custom feature requested by the customer. The reel comes with its original Edward Vom Hofe stamped leather reel case with a missing strap, otherwise in good original condition.
