For sale here is a stellar Payne Model 197 bamboo rod from the 1960's. Excellent ++ overall condition. 7'6" 3/2 for a 5 weight line (some like a DT4 as well). The rod weighs 3 7/8 oz and is marked 4 oz. on the hang tag. Up-locking reel seat over the standard spanish cedar spacer. A classic Jim Payne rod with the "Made for Abercrombie & Fitch Co." die stamp on the up-locking ring, along with the Payne die stamp. The grip is western-style and has a bit of soiling but is extremely smooth with absolutely no ridging present. All sections are full length and dead-straight. The ferrules are size 14/64 and 9/64 and their fit is excellent. The rod has a wonderful medium fast dry fly action. Complete with ferrule plugs and hang tag. Original bag and tube and aftermarket canvas tube protector.
The Payne Model 197 is the HOLY GRAIL for Payne collectors -- a very difficult rod model to find, especially in this condition. This one also comes complete with all of the bells and whistles.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
