Payne Model 101 Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a stunner from the Jim Payne rod shop, a Model 101 -- 7'6" 2/2 5wt. The rod is in excellent overall condition and completely original. The Model 101 was one of Jim Payne’s faster tapers, commanding a 5 wt. with a fluid authority. All sections are full length and straight. Chestnut silks and gold tipping. Gold and purple at the winding check and male ferrules. Bronzed, ring hook keeper. Cigar grip 5 1/2" in length with only light soiling. Cap and ring reel seat over a cork spacer. There is bluing loss to the seat hardware. The ferrules are size 12/64 with an excellent fit. The rod weighs 3.70 oz. The action is on the faster side of medium fast - authoritative and swift with thin delicate tips that allow for finesse and tippet protection. An amazing dry fly rod. Includes original bag and labeled tube. A canvas tube cover also comes with the sale. 

This model was introduced in 1950 when Jim Payne developed a new set of faster dry fly tapers. Due to it only be sold for a short two decades by the Payne shop, this very desirable rod is virtually impossible to find as most are tightly held in private collections.
