For sale here is a Paul French bamboo rod - 6 1/2 feet, 2/2 for a 3 or 4 weight. Paul French built most of his rods (not many) in the 90's and at that time was a student of Darryl Whitehead. He built very exquisite rods and those fortunate enough to own one tend to hold on to them. This one is still original, full-length and in excellent+ condition. Medium/fast action. Darkly flamed cane and a very handsome spiraled node pattern. Beautiful burled uplocking reel seat spacer with striking pocketed butt cap and a nickel silver ring engraved by master gun engraver Paulo Barbetti. If I'm not mistaken this is the 4th rod Mr. French made, in 1992. Gorgeous blacks wraps tipped crimson accent the flaming of the cane nicely. Very attractive black agate composite stripping guide. Blued snake guides and tip tops, which could use a simple re-bluing job. Western style cigar grip. Comes with ferrule plug. All sections are straight. Comes with original bag and brass-capped tube.
Most of the Paul French rods on the market came from one collector and once this handful of rods are sold, you may not see one for quite a while. These rods and their balance of quality construction, striking cosmetics, and affordability make them very attractive in my opinion.
