For sale here is a pre-fire H.L. Leonard Model 51 HW Tournament bamboo rod - 9' 3/2 6/7wt line with a listed weight of 5 3/4 oz. and an actual weight of 5.85 oz. The rod is in excellent+ refinished condition. All sections are full length and straight. The rod features beautiful golden cane with matching wraps and black and light green tipping at the winding check and male ferrules. Oxidized guides with the exception of the red agate stripping guide. The guides are reverse twist English-style. Gradually swelled butt. Ring hook-keeper. The previous owner's name is written on the butt section. Replacement western-style grip 5 1/2" in length with light soiling. Down-locking screw-lock reel seat with a butternut spacer. The bright nickel silver ferrules are size 12/64 and 19/64 with a great fit. The rod is described in the 1921 William Mills catalog as follows,
"The fishing in the western rivers in some places demands a rod very powerful and stiff in the butt and middle joint and a delicate tip... the following which are "ideal" rods for that style of angling"
The rod includes the original bag with hang tag and the original tube. Written on the tag along with the information is "steelhead". Don't miss out on this classic Leonard rod.
