For sale here is one of Gary Howells' personal bamboo rods - 8 feet for a 4 weight line, labeled 3 5/8 oz. Craig Lynch notified me: "The records don't say if it had 1 tip, but Gary's production list for 1976 lists it going to "G. H. Howells." He probably built the rod for himself which would explain why there is no label on the tube - and only 1 tip. I'm not surprised that it has a cork reel seat as most of his personal rods were built that way."
The rod actually weighs 3 3/8 oz. One tip section. Size 12/64 ferrules. Serial #4360. The rod is in excellent original condition. Both sections are straight. Carbide stripping guide, wrapped in brown thread with gold trim. Reverse half wells grip, down-locking aluminum cap and ring reel seat over a cork spacer. Very slightly swelled butt. There is a small ring of red around the butt of the grip from the red rod bag that will clean up easily for the next owner. We did not clean the grip because it has serious mojo from Howell's personal fishing adventures. The ferrule fit is nice and tight. Lovely medium-fast action; not as slow as many of Howell's tapers. Original bag and tube though it is missing the label.
