For sale here is a beautiful HMH Premium Vise "Limited Edition". The vise is in mint unused condition with the plastic wrapping still on the pieces. Serial no. 356. The HMH Premium Vise was designed in 1975 for a new breed of fly tyers born from the renaissance of fly fishing in the 1970's. The vise was chiefly designed by Bill Hunter, founder of HMH, in 1975-76 with a great deal of input from America's premiere tyers of the day. Those tyers included Dave Whitlock, Lefty Kreh, Ted Niemeyer, Poul Jorgensen, Jay and Kathy Buchner, Andre Puyans, and Rene and Bonnie Harrop.
The Limited Edition consists of a traditional base, a c-clamp base, the vise itself, three sets of jaws, two allen wrenches for operation and set-up, and the literature. This is all housed in a beautiful, custom, presentation quality, Walnut box. The box is lined with faux green velvet on the lid for protection of the contents. Inside the box there are also dedicated spaces for tying tools and materials. There are 4 slots for thread, 4 more slots for extra jaws in addition to the 3 included, and a space for hackle pliers, bobbin, scissors, and hair stacker. Within the box is a brass badge for engraving that remains blank. The box features brass hinges, and clasps. As well as a leather carrying handle with brass hardware. On the outside of the box there are two small dents on the lid.
The vise is capable of true rotary action with simple operating mechanics unlike many vises. The three jaws included are the midge (#12-#32 hooks), medium (#1/0-#32), and the magnum (#4/0-#32). The jaws are made of a special chrome-moly tool steel noted for it's toughness. A material clip is also included with the vise.
This vise marks a pivotal time period in the fly fishing world. This would make an exceptional gift for the serious tyer or for any collector. The craftsmanship and thought that went into design of the vise shows. You will not be disappointed!
