For sale here is a very interesting Hardy Bros. bamboo fly rod. The "Halford" Rod -- 10' 3/2 8-9wt salmon rod. Serial #E30276, made in 1934. The rod is in very good original condition, though it may have received a varnish overcoat at some point. The mid section female ferrule is loose to the cane and will need to be reset. All sections are full length with a slight set in one of the tips. The rod features golden silks with full intermediates that are much wider than typical. All of the guides feature a clear agate insert. The stripping guide is slightly bent. Ring hook-keeper. Handsome, brass winding check. Cigar style grip 9 1/2" in length. The cork is only lightly soiled and free of any defects. Aluminum screw lock reel seat with black pyralin spacer. The gap between the screwlock component and the spacer does not affect the use of the reel seat.
The rod features a "bank spike", kept in the reel seat when not in use. The spike is used when resting the rod against something while not fishing. The butt cap screws off, the spike is pulled out and turned around, the butt cap is used to affix the spike in place.
The nickel silver ferrules are spiked and feature an interesting spring-loaded pin locking mechanism that ensures the rod won't come apart while fishing. Ferrule size 14/64 and 21/64. The fit is excellent. The rod weighs 8 1/4 oz. The tips are housed in a unique tip tube made of bright aluminum. Hardy insignia and information are stamped onto the tip tube cap. Includes original bag. There is a small hole at the bottom of the of the tip tube slot. This rod would be perfect for any Hardy collector or fan of classic Atlantic Salmon tackle.
