For sale here we have a very special and rare photograph of Gary Howells in the R.L. Winston shop circa 1950s. This __" by __" photograph was acquired from the Howells estate in the 1970s by Craig Lynch and is one of three in existence, the other two owned by Lynch and Glenn Brackett. There is a small bend in the bottom left hand corner of the photo that occurred during shipping.
In the photograph Howells is seen sanding string and glue off blanks fresh out of glue up. Note the Jim Beam bottle in the left hand side of the frame. The photographer is unknown. It is likely Howells developed the photos himself as he had his own developing equipment.
This photograph is a rare and candid look into the San Francisco Winston shop and the bench of Gary Howells. Truly a treasure to the history of the sport and the bamboo fly rod craft.
