Howells, Gary - Personal Salmon & Steelhead Flies

For sale here we have two of Gary Howells' personal salmon and steelhead fly boxes. The flies were tied by Howells himself -they are in exceptional condition and very well tied as Howells was a very accomplished tyer. The flies were tied between 1960-1970. The collection consists of two separate metal Wheatley boxes.
Each of two boxes are of the same style and size. The design uses rows of clips to hold the flies. There are 4 rows of 5 larger clips in the lid and bottom of the boxes and 5 rows of 7 smaller clips on the front and back of the center leaf. All of the boxes are in excellent condition free of defects and rust. The hinges, clasps, and clips are all in fine working order. The box dimensions are 6" (L) x 3 5/8" (W) x 1" (D).
The boxes are mostly full. The flies range from classic-style Salmon flies tied with jungle cock to newer brighter/flashier flies, flies with dumb bell eyes, singles and doubles, tied on silver hooks and black hooks. The flies range in size from #1/0 - 12. All of the flies are in excellent condition.
Adams Angling of Berkeley, Ca was selling Gary Howells salmon flies in 2006 for $35 a piece.
These personal artifacts from Gary Howells are a rare glimpse into the bamboo rod making legend. A must have for R.L. Winston or Howells collectors. Don't miss out on this piece of fly fishing history.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

Other Terms
- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
