E.W. Edwards Winchester Model 6163 "Wandrod" 7' 2/2 #4

SKU: VFT3262

For sale here is an exceedingly rare E.W. Edwards designed - Winchester 6163 "Wandrod" 7' 2/2 4wt. Made between 1926-1933. A description from the 1927 Winchester catalog reads, "Highest grade bamboo rod. Hand made throughout. Hand tooled nickel silver fittings. Serrated, welted and waterproofed ferrules... All six strips cut from the same piece of bamboo...)

The rod is in excellent condition and appears to be 100% original. The Silkaline bag is also original and retains the Winchester label. Replacement Peerless tube. One of the tip ferrules is slightly clicking but this is best left alone considering the rarity of the rod. Browntone tempered cane with gold wraps and purple tipping. The Winchester label is fully intact with almost no wear. The rod features a swelled butt that stands out attractively on this small rod. Agate stripping guide, the rest of the guides are bronzed steel. "Roto-tip" tops indicate this is a rod made after Eustis Edwards left Winchester. The cigar grip is as smooth as the day it was made with very little soiling. Nickel silver cap and ring reel seat with a beautiful mortised butternut spacer.

The rod weighs a svelte 2.90 oz. Ferrule size 11/64, the fit is excellent. The crisp action is on the faster side of medium fast, smooth and delicate. This is an excellent dry-fly rod truly at the vanguard of fly rod design of its day.
